Global problem – Microsoft system ‘crashed’ – Flight cancellations – No media broadcasts – Issue with banks too 2024-07-21 01:13:55

British Sky News, one of the country’s largest television stations, might not broadcast its program today.

“Sky News is unable to broadcast live television this morning, telling viewers at this time that we apologize for the disruption,” the network’s executive chairman David Rodge told Platform X.

A global technical program in an IT system affects the operation of businesses in several countries, including Spanish airports, a Turkish airline, media companies and banks in Australia.

Major US carriers are making emergency landings citing communication issues.

A “wide-ranging technical breach” is affecting dozens of businesses in Australia — from banks, telcos and media — and appears to be linked to problems experienced by cybersecurity services firm Crowdstrike, a spokesman for Australia’s Department of Home Affairs said.

According to specialist website Downdetector, the flaw affects many banks and telecommunications companies.

“I have been made aware of a large-scale technical breach affecting a number of businesses and services across Australia this followingnoon,” Michelle McGuinness of the Australian Cybersecurity Agency said via X.

“Current information indicates that this vulnerability is linked to a technical issue with the software platform used by the affected companies,” she added.

Besides, McGuinness emphasized that “there is no information to suggest that this is an incident related to cyber security”.

Australia’s state broadcaster ABC said it was experiencing a “major technical failure”, without elaborating.

For its part, Crowdstrike says in a pre-recorded message that it is aware of reports of a problem with Microsoft’s Windows operating system linked to the Falcon sensor.

Earlier, the Berlin airport announced the suspension of air traffic until 11:00 Greek time due to a technical problem in the IT system.

Earlier, the managing company of the airport in a statement to X informed the passengers that there are delays in check-in due to a technical problem.

Technical failure in the IT system affects the operation of many businesses and companies in many countries, including Australia, Turkey and Spain.
