According to that Charities Aid 2024 World Giving Index Last month, a record 4.3 billion people around the world helped someone they didn’t know, donating time or money to a good cause.
For the seventh year in a row, Indonesia is the most generous country in the world, with 90% of Indonesians donating money to charity and 65% donating their time. Kenya ranks second after ranking third last year. Singapore rose 19 places to third place, with its overall index score rising from 49% to 61% compared with the same period last year. The positive results in Singapore follow recent government measures to promote philanthropy and volunteering.
this CAF World Giving Index is one of the largest fundraising surveys ever conducted, surveying millions of people around the world since 2009. This year’s index includes data from 142 countries, and people are asked three questions: whether they have helped a stranger, made a donation or volunteered for a good cause in the past month.
The 2024 CAF World Giving Index also shows:
· The top ten includes only the world’s two largest economies (Indonesia and the United States), while one of the world’s poorest countries – The Gambia – ranks fourth.
· Morocco has the highest annual increase in donations in the world. These interviews were conducted after a devastating earthquake in the center of the country in September 2023. Only 2% of people will donate to charity in 2022, up from 18% last year, while volunteer numbers have doubled from 8% to 16%.
· Greece is the country with the largest rise this year, having steadily improved its ranking since 2013. The value of helping strangers is particularly high – well above the European average and especially high among young people.
