Global food prices fell for the 11th month in a row, with prices of most commodities including grain falling.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the world food price index released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations last month was 129.8, down 0.6% from the previous month.
The global food price index has been declining for 11 consecutive months since peaking at 159.7 in March last year.
The index is a figure that compares the average prices of grains, oils, meat, dairy products, sugar, etc. from 2014 to 2016 with a value of 100.
Last month, prices of four items — grains, oils, meat, and dairy products — went down, but sugar prices rose.
Prices rose sharply as India’s sugar production was projected to decline, but the increase was moderated by a good harvest in Thailand and falling international crude oil prices.
