EGA purchased goods and services from 55 different Chinese companies for regarding $616 million during 2021, while China is the largest single market for bauxite produced by the company, which it ships directly to its mining operations in the Republic of Guinea.
Emirates Global Aluminium received Zhang Yiming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in the UAE, at the company’s site in Jebel Ali, Dubai; China’s SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Company Limited (SEPCOIII) worked as a subcontractor in the construction of the EGA gas turbine power plant and the main contractor for the reverse osmosis desalination plant project at the company’s site in Jebel Ali.
Zhang Yiming met Chinese SEPCO 3 employees at the project site to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a Chinese traditional holiday.
He said: “I am pleased to witness the great cooperation between the leading aluminum company with SEPCO 3, which has resulted in many achievements for the two companies. I look forward to strengthening the cooperation of more Chinese companies with major Emirati companies such as Emirates Global Aluminium. We also welcome Emirates Global Aluminium to invest in China and benefit from the current reform and opening up processes.”
Abdullah Kalban, Managing Director of EGA, who was at the head of the recipients of the ambassador and his accompanying delegation, said: “Chinese companies have been important partners of EGA for decades, and we are pleased to welcome the Chinese Ambassador to Jebel Ali on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. We look forward to strengthening our cooperation with Chinese companies over the coming years, in line with the strong economic relations between our two countries.”
For his part, Zaher Al Habtri, Executive Vice President of Capital Projects and Bauxite and Alumina Operations at Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “The company has cooperated with Chinese companies for more than 25 years, and the company is the second largest supplier of imported bauxite in the Chinese market and we look forward to enhancing future cooperation opportunities.”
