There is soccer fever in Bergamo, Italy.

You’ve probably heard it before.

But there is something special in the process, when the 3-0 victory once morest Liverpool at Anfield a week ago is to be managed.

– Everyone is super optimistic. It was 80-20 to Liverpool before the first match, now it has turned here, says Glenn Strömberg to Sportbladet.

The hotel rooms are sold out, policemen stand around every street corner, “something is going on”.

– This belongs to one of the biggest matches in Atalanta’s long history.

Has own retro collection

On Wednesday evening, Strömberg, or Stromberg as he is with all of Bergamo, was in the center. After the team’s training, he showed off the club’s retro collection “Legends”, where the Swede is first out. Strömberg has his own corner in the club shop where 10–15 different products from the collection bearing his name are sold.

– It’s fun that you got to be the first out.

Strömberg played in Atalanta between 1984–1992 and still lives in the city.

Once before, he has commented on Atalanta. Then without an audience in Lisbon, where he also played once upon a time. It was in the Champions League quarter-final once morest PSG in 2020.

– Now I get to comment on Atalanta for the first time in front of full stands. There might have been three times as many people on site, but there is no room for more than just under 15,000. The president (Antonio Percassi) has said: “I can hardly get in myself”. It’s a positive pressure, everyone is looking forward to the battle, says Strömberg, who comments on the match for Viaplay together with Henrik Strömblad.

“Will be a hell of a battle”

What are your feelings when you comment on Atalanta?

– There are no major problems, it’s just a matter of going out and watching this match. I haven’t had any problems with it before. People ask regarding bias, but it’s nothing like that. If you have been involved and played in many clubs, you do not have the hysterical supportership. I see it more in a football way.

What do you think regarding the match?

– The feeling is that there are very few times I’ve seen a team play like Atalanta did away to Liverpool. Gian Piero Gasperini (coach) stands for an aggressive, optimistic football and mentality. You have to take the same thing with you into the next match. You can be part of the fact that they will be a hell of a battle. It is good psychologically to take with you that this is a home game. It would have been more difficult if they had defended the lead at Anfield. Now you have your own audience, a fortress here. It’s an incredible advantage to have.

The match between Atalanta and Liverpool is broadcast on TV6 with the Europa League studio at 20.00. There, a feature with Glenn Strömberg in Bergamo is shown.
