Common eye diseases among older adults, glaucoma and cataracts can occur at the same time. Cataract is due to a progressive opacification of the lens present in the middle of the eye, the crystalline lens, which hinders distance and near vision. Glaucoma is damage to the optic nerve, often associated with elevated intraocular pressure, which leads to narrowing of the field of vision.
