The formation of the band from Melbourne began when Rajan Silva was nostalgic for childhood memories that were close to his father who moved from India to Melbourne, Australia at the end of the 1970s.

Little Rajan used to often watch a DVD entitled Concert for George, which was a star-studded tribute concert held in memory of the deceased member of The Beatles, George Harrison.

The concert, which was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2002, featured the legendary sitar player from India, Ravi Shankar, with his son Anoushka, along with western world music icons, namely Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Jeff Lynne from ELO.

Rajan’s father’s music collection became a melting pot where the music of iconic Bollywood vocalist Asha Bhosle and the Mangeshkar family was juxtaposed with the music of world blues legends such as BB King and Muddy Waters.

What really caught Rajan’s attention was the fusion of Western musical styles and traditional Indian music pioneered by Indian musicians such as RD Burman, Ananda Shankar, and the Kalyanji-Anandji duo.

Glass Beams works are the point where East and West meet. A place where tradition and modernity meet. The result is a timeless blend of culture and sounds, presented through live instrumentation and electronic music in a DIY (do it yourself) format. Everything is packaged with mystical and stunning visuals of their creations.
