Clearing rubble from the remains of buildings destroyed in the fire glass and steel is almost finished. On September 30, 2023, a violent fire broke out in disused towers in the Saint-Julien district of Rouen (Seine-Maritime). This week, the transportation of hazardous waste is almost over.
This Friday, February 16, 2024, around 2000 tons of rubble were cleared. Which represents 15 truck round trips per day.

Asbestos waste is loaded “into skips with waterproof containers. The skips are decontaminated by spraying before storage in the “clean” zone
from the construction site, to then be evacuated to approved landfills,” indicates the city in a press release.
Specifically, the waste is evacuated to Tourville-la-Rivière, in the marmitaine pitin the immediate vicinity of Freneuse and Cléon, in the old town of Elbeuf.
The project has made headway: the company has to date evacuated the equivalent of the rubble from the two buildings. The misting was therefore gradually stopped

However, the evacuation operations have not yet been completed. “After the rubble, evacuation of peripheral soils “The work began on February 15 and should be finalized by the beginning of March,” specifies the city of Rouen.
“The removal of the installations will take place during the month of March. If there is no hazard, the work should therefore end definitively with almost three months early on the schedule initially announced,” welcomes the municipality.
If the end of the construction site is necessarily a good news for local residents, other questions are still unanswered. Particularly in terms of concerns from local residents and a complaint from a trade union organization.
