Gladiators will seek a place in their second consecutive final in the SPB

Gladiadores de Anzoátegui will seek this Thursday to secure their place in their second consecutive final in the 2024 Professional Basketball Super League (SPB).

La Armadura will host Guaiqueríes de Margarita at the Luis Ramos gym on the Barcelona-Puerto La Cruz axis, in what promises to be a duel full of emotions between two teams fighting to qualify for the decisive stage.

Ronald Guillén’s team leads the round-robin table with 11 points, the result of five wins and one loss, precisely against the island team. La Tribu is third with a record of 3-2 and eight points, although with one game less than Gladiadores and Cocodrilos de Caracas (second with 3-3 and nine points).

Hierarchy

Since the start of the 2024 Venezuelan basketball season, the Anzoategui quintet has been emerging as one of the protagonists due to the hierarchy of its pieces and so far they have not disappointed.

They dominated the regular round easily, in the intergroup phase they swept aside Héroes de Falcón and in the semi-final they remain the best team, on the verge of the final. All thanks to the fact that at key moments figures such as Gregory Vargas and Michael Carrera appeared, who stand out in the league.

In the Super Round, he has not been able to count on another key player like Anthony Pérez, but another native player with his accurate shots from the perimeter like José Materán constantly appears.

The squad also features experienced players such as Windi Graterol, brought in as a reinforcement; as well as imported players Adonys Henríquez, Durrell Summers, Malik Dime and now Jezreel de Jesús, all of whom made key appearances in the semi-final.

Possibilities

Under the technical direction of Ronald Guillén, who was James Maye’s assistant in the title of the previous season, everything seems to indicate that Gladiadores will be in its second consecutive final in just five years of the organization.

However, we must wait to see how the match against Guaiqueríes develops. If they are unable to beat the islanders, they could also benefit from the results on Saturday, when they will be resting.

If the scenarios La Armadura needs do not occur, they will be able to seek qualification again on the field next Monday, September 2, when they visit Cocodrilos de Caracas at the United Nations Park (PNU).
