Gladiadores de Anzoátegui defeated Trotamundos de Carabobo on Tuesday with a score of 68-58 and is one step away from securing a ticket to the final of the 2024 Professional Basketball Super League (SPB).

At the Luis Ramos gym on the Barcelona-Puerto La Cruz axis, La Armadura defeated Expreso Azul, who showed their grit and fought until the end to achieve the victory that would allow them to climb positions in the table.

Because Guaiqueríes de Margarita lost to Cocodrilos de Caracas in the other match of the night, the Anzoategui team was unable to register its name in the decisive instance. However, it will be able to do so next Thursday, August 29, when it plays at home against La Tribu.

Defense

The defense on both sides of the court was the most notable in the duel between Anzoatiguenses and Carabobo.

Cabriales started by imposing conditions on the match, but the locals were able to recover to end the first quarter with the score tied at 15.

The dynamic of parity continued in the second quarter, although at times Gladiadores seemed to be escaping. However, the visitors were not discouraged and their response was sufficiently forceful to go into the break with a two-point lead (35-33), after a triple by Jhornan Zamora.

Eastern reaction

In the third period, Ronald Guillén’s team tightened up both in defense and attack and left their rivals with just nine points to take a five-point lead. Then, in the last 10 minutes, they kept Expreso Azul at bay to take the win, their fifth in the round robin.

Imported Durrell Summers was instrumental in Anzoátegui’s victory. The American scored several baskets at crucial moments and finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Gladiadores will return to action on Thursday against Guaiqueríes de Margarita as host. That day they will have the opportunity to secure their place in the final with one game left to play.
