Gladiadores de Anzoátegui dominated Marinos de Oriente with a score of 81-62, in what was the start of the Super Round of the Professional Basketball Super League (SPB) 2024.
The match, held on Thursday 15 August, had an unbeatable setting with fans from both teams filling the Luis Ramos gym on the Barcelona-Puerto La Cruz axis.
It is worth remembering that there was great expectation among basketball fans. On one side was La Armadura, the current champion of the tournament, and on the other was an Eastern Battleship that returned to what was its home for years and where it lived a golden age.
One path
During the first few minutes of the match, both teams looked erratic in their offensive phase, which caused the score to remain even and low. However, little by little, Gladiadores settled down and began to forge their way to victory.
Once the home team began to have a clear shot at the basket, they began to build an advantage that would ultimately be insurmountable for the visitors. It should also be noted that the naval team showed little effectiveness in field goals, sometimes due to the defensive deployment of the rival and other times due to hasty decisions.
Between the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the last, the Eastern Battleship managed to put the difference in a single digit, but the closest it got was nine points for a few seconds. Then, those led by Ronald Guillén finished securing the victory to start the round robin in a positive way.
Gregory Vargas was one of the main figures of the match. He finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to six assists. Adonys Henríquez also stood out with 16 points.
The next match for Gladiators will be on Saturday, August 17 against Trotamundos de Carabobo at the Valencia Forum. Marinos will be free on that second date.
