MÖNCHENGLADBACH, Germany (AP) — Manu Koné scored the winning goal with a header in the 120th minute and Borussia Mönchengladbach beat Wolfsburg 1-0 in overtime on Tuesday to advance to the German Cup quarterfinals.

With a penalty shootout looming, Florian Neuhaus found space to fire a lob pass past the goalkeeper and onto the head of French midfielder Koné.

Wolfsburg might have won the match in the first 90 minutes, but missed several chances. Tiago Tomas sent the ball into the back of the net, but the referee ruled it offside. Goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas saved Jonas Wind’s shot with a spectacular dive and fired another that went too wide.

St. Pauli easily beat Homburg 4-1, to eliminate the lowest-ranked team that was still alive. Homburg plays in the fourth division.

An inspiring turnaround helped promotion-fighting Fortuna Duesseldorf into the quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory over second-place team Magdeburg. Fortuna coach Daniel Thioune sent Jona Niemiec onto the field in the 85th minute when Magdeburg was ahead on the scoreboard. Niemiec scored two goals, first in the 87th and later in added time.

Two-time German Cup champions, second division Kaiserslautern returned to the quarterfinals for the first time in a decade with a 2-0 win over Nuremberg.

The remaining four matches of the round of 16 will take place on Wednesday. Stuttgart hosts Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen hosts Paderborn, from the second.
