NASA Mars Probe InSight took his last selfie on April 24 with his robotic arm. And if you take a closer look at it, it becomes clear why this photo is the last one: the solar panels of the device are covered with a huge amount of dust, and they simply can no longer receive enough light.
When InSight landed on the Red Planet in 2018, it might produce regarding 5,000 Wh every day. Today, the lander generates only 500 Wh per day.
If you clean at least 25% of the entire area of solar panels, InSight it might still function, but there is no one on Mars to do this, and not even one of the many dusty whirlwinds of the Red Planet crept up to the device.
By the end of the year, the mission of the device will be completed, but the team will not give up hope to ever receive a new “hello” from the device.
