According to message Archyde.comalready this week the company IBM intends to announce its intentions to start investing in quantum computing. It is noted that in recent years, the once leader in the production of computers has focused on the development of software and servers for high-performance computing. However, now they intend to receive a government subsidy for the development of a separate New York cluster, which will deal exclusively with quantum computing.
The event, which will announce investments in a new area, should be attended by US President Joe Biden, who will fly to Poughkeepsie, New York, where IBM’s core research center is located. The ceremony will also be attended by the company’s CEO Arvind Krishna. In plans IBM includes the creation of a world hub focused on developments in the field of quantum computing. Funding for the project will be approximately $20 billion, but the exact amount of subsidies is not known.
It is assumed that the allocated amount will be distributed over the next ten years, and these funds will be invested in technologies for creating mainframes, AI systems and quantum computing.
