International team of scientists led by experts from the University of Turku (Finland) discovered unusual property of toxoplasma.
About half of people worldwide are thought to be infected with the parasitic organism. Toxoplasma Gondi. Previous research has shown that male rats infected with Toxoplasma seem to be popular with females. Scientists wondered if it works the same way in humans?
35 infected volunteers and 178 healthy volunteers were selected. For the first group, the indicator of the so-called “fluctuation asymmetry”, which indicates the asymmetry of the shape of the face, was significantly lower. There is a correlation: the higher the symmetry, the better the health potential and genes, and the more attractive the appearance. In addition, women with toxoplasmosis were found to be slimmer, considered themselves more beautiful, and were more successful with men.
Also, more than 200 other participants rated the photos of the first two groups. They concluded that Toxoplasma promotes a healthier appearance and attractiveness.
The effect of Toxoplasma on appearance in men occurs through testosterone. It also affects metabolism, allowing its owner not to lose harmony. This is beneficial for the parasite, since the more partners a person has, the more active the spread of Toxoplasma itself.
