Forward Claude Giroux will head to Florida, while defender Hampus Lindholm heads to Boston.

For Giroux, the Flyers receive a pick of 1is turn in 2024, a choice of 3e round in 2023 as well as prospect Owen Tippett, drafted in 1is round in 2017. The Flyers also sell Connor Bunnaman and German Rubtsov, mainly minor league players, as well as a 2024 5th round pick. The Flyers keep 50% of Giroux’s salary.

The Panthers had to give up their 1is choices of 2024, because those of 2022 and 2023 were used to acquire Sam Reinhart and Ben Chiarot respectively.

With this acquisition, the Panthers reinforce their status as Stanley Cup contenders. Earlier this week, the Florida team had also negotiated with the Montreal Canadiens to get defender Ben Chiarot.

Drafted in the first round in 2006, Giroux has played 1,000 games in a Flyers uniform between February 19, 2008 and today. He has 900 points, including 291 career goals. He helped the Flyers reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010 and was named All-Star Game MVP that same season.

Giroux is the second player in Flyers history, following Bobby Clarke, to have played 1,000 games in a Flyers uniform. He had been captain of the team since January 15, 2013.

Lindholm to Boston

In Boston, the Bruins gave up a pick of 1is round in 2022, two choices of 2e round (2023 and 2024), as well as defenders Urho Vaakanainen and John Moore. Like Tippett, Vaakanainen was selected in the 1is tour in 2017, but has still not been able to establish himself in the NHL.

The Bruins also get American League defenseman Kodie Curran.

Giroux and Lindholm are both in their final year of contract and will become unrestricted free agents this summer. The Flyers and Ducks also withheld half of each player’s salary to make these trades possible under the salary cap.

As for the Minnesota Wild, general manager Bill Guerin announced on Saturday that he has acquired Quebec forward Nicolas Deslauriers from the Anaheim Ducks.

In return, the Wild gives up a third-round pick in the 2023 Entry Draft.

The 31-year-old rugged Deslauriers has scored five goals and had ten points this season. He also had 210 hits in 61 games with the Ducks, ranking him fifth in the NHL.

The six-foot-one, 210-pound forward, a LaSalle native, has played 486 career NHL games, racking up 82 points, including 41 goals.

In nine seasons, he wore the uniform of the Sabres, the Canadiens and the Ducks before joining the Wild. He was drafted in the third round by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 auction.
