Giro: Mark Cavendish flashed at 74 km / h in the final sprint, the ‘Cav’ still flirts with a Merckx record

At 37, Mark Cavendish never ceases to amaze us. Sunday in Hungary, the Isle of Man sprinter collected his 16th victory on the roads of the Gironine years following his last success in 2013.

A supersonic victory for the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team rider who well deserved his nickname Manx Express. Perfectly launched and driven by his team, Cavendish took advantage of the descending false flat which preceded the long final straight to accumulate speed.

Faster than its opponents, it was flashed at 74.7 km/h as the maximum speed peak. The specialized site Velon CC has even identified a average speed of 72.1 km/h over the last 17 seconds of the race. Impressive.

Humble and grateful, Cavendish paid tribute to his teammates for this performance. “Jhave an amazing group. I said it before the race and they responded today,” he reacted following highlighting the work done by each of his teammates.
