When creating new Sonic games, developers from Sonic Team do not forget regarding a few rules, said the head of the studio Takashi Iizuka in an interview with the publication Axios.
First two rules — official, they must be strictly observed, and they relate to the capabilities of the protagonist.

The producer noted that the last rule is respected even in the sports games of the series Mario & Sonic, which are produced in conjunction with Nintendo, where one of the Olympic disciplines is swimming. The third rule is unofficial, but Iizuka has adhered to it for the past 15 years. After mixed reactions public to romantic scenes in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), where Sonic spent time with the human princess Eliza, who even kissed him, Sonic Team decided they would no longer flirt with such themes.
