Though she won’t be traveling to Bakersfield, California, this year like she did with her father, Jose, to watch the CIF state wrestling championships, the feeling will be remarkably similar.
Quiroz will be among the 71 girls competing in eight weight classes during the inaugural DODEA-Europe girls wrestling championships, taking place from Thursday to Saturday at the Wiesbaden Sports and Fitness Center in Germany.
“It wouldn’t say it’s exactly the same, but it’s almost the same concept,” Quiroz said. “It gives you that same kind of excitement that I got when I was younger going to these state tournaments and going to watch people I idolize a lot.”

“I don’t want to psyche them out, especially as it can be overwhelming, being the first girls division, first girls team to go out there,” said Kirkconnell, who has been sharing her experiences with her teammates.“I’m very proud of them, and I don’t want them to worry too much.”
Another standout competitor is Rota High School’s Jazmine Quiroz, who has remained undefeated at 120 pounds this season. “It’s a little nerve-racking, since it’s going to be on a bigger stage, arena than it was the last couple of months,” Quiroz shared, expressing her eagerness to face new opponents, including Alconbury’s Richele Reyes, at the tournament.
