Antoine Dupont was the guest of the show broadcast on France 2, “Lesencontres du Papotins”. The French rugby star notably told some anecdotes, between laughter and emotion.
Rugby player Antoine Dupont will return to the pitch in a few weeks. In the meantime, and after winning a fabulous gold medal with the French 7s team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Stade Toulousain player took advantage of his vacation in the United States. He notably trained in American football with the Los Angeles Chargers and shared moments with superstars LeBron James and Lionel Messi.
But Antoine Dupont also made a notable appearance on the show “The Papotin meetings” broadcast this Saturday evening on France 2. The star of the French XV, often jostled when he is on the pitch, was, here too, somewhat heckled by certain unfiltered questions. One of the first concerns the number of medals won at the Olympics. To which Dupont responds: “Only one”. His interlocutor then says to him: “It’s not much!”. “It’s true, it could have been better”laughs the scrum half.

The French XV player could not escape the questions «people» of the evening: “Do you have children?” et “Do you have a girlfriend”. “I don’t have any children. I don’t have a girlfriend, because that’s life (smile). I don’t have a boyfriend either.”asks Dupont. Throughout the questions, the Toulouse resident continued to open up, even revealing that he had “a little afraid of cows. I’m going with my brother because I’m not being smart.”.
One interlocutor was even more frank in saying that he had gained weight. In his traditional good humor, the native of Lannemezan (Hautes-Pyrénées) explains: “I’m enjoying my vacation!”. After saying he felt “almost like a ‘bobo'”Antoine Dupont answered questions about his money. “We are lucky to be well paid, yes. We are very far from what footballers can earn! I’m not complaining”.
Rock, rap or street art? “I like all music but I listen to a lot of rap”. And the rapper he listens to the most: “It’s Nefkeu”he reveals. Another revelation, one of his biggest mistakes, he who is also known to have been a child…dissipated. “I was 12 or 13 years old. I took my mother’s car to go for rides, I wasn’t really allowed (laughs). I wanted to park under the tree to pick figs. Except I forgot to stop and drove into a tree.”explains Dupont, provoking hilarity from the audience.

In an atmosphere of communion, the rugby player even took the liberty of singing (a cappella and without words please), the famous song by Céline Dion, “I will go where you go”. More serious subjects were also discussed, notably on the evolution of homosexuality in the world of sport. “It’s very slow. There were some because there were people who spoke up. But it is still a subject that is still taboo. For example, in professional rugby, we only have one player who has come out. Whereas I think that, statistically, there must still be others. It’s still just as hard today to take responsibility even if I think that society is evolving and that we are an open-minded environment. We would be ready to accept this without any problem”.
With much more emotion, the French international spoke about his father, who died last year. “I am very close to my family and my mother. Since they are not far from Toulouse, I can see them often. This is something that is important to me. My dad died last year. He had taken a wrong turn. He had been in a vegetative state for eight years. He was in a center. And he died last year.”.
