“Flocked prices? But what blocked prices!” says Roberto, while putting his groceries in the trunk of his car. “The price of dog food has decreased by 1 euro, it’s true,” he concedes. Parked in front of a supermarket in the center of Milan, this sixty-year-old comments on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s new measure to fight poverty. At the end of September, his government signed an “anti-inflation pact to protect citizens’ purchasing power.” Thus, the far-right executive promises “a wide range of essential products, food but not only, with the commitment to contain prices and not increase them” until the end of the year.

“I didn’t see any price blocked,” asserts Giulia, leaving the store. A logo in the shape of a basket in the colors of the Italian flag, symbol of this initiative by Giorgia Meloni, is supposed to be stuck on the products concerned, i.e. a little over a thousand. However, the sticker is nowhere to be found in this business, which nevertheless adheres to the project of the President of the Council. “Bad Meloni!” says the angry customer once more, two plastic bags in hand, walking away with a determined step. This anti-inflation measure, poorly communicated, is nevertheless supposed to represent the economic policy of aid to the most deprived and to families implemented by Giorgia Meloni since she came to power on October 22 last year.
