“Ginette Reno’s Revealing Interview: Childhood Trauma and Overcoming Violence”

On the sidelines of the launch of her new album and her biography, singer Ginette Reno delivered herself without filter Sunday evening, in an interview with Paul Arcand, on the airwaves of TVA.

The artist, who will celebrate his 77th birthday on April 28, recounted dark episodes of his youth marked by the violence and alcoholism of his father.

“My father was an alcoholic, which he had all the characteristics of an alcoholic. He might lie, he was very fond of women. He was a man who was very into women. Sometimes he was very violent,” explains the artist.

Nonetheless, Ginette Reno describes her father as a ‘good’ and loving man who had a great sense of humor

“He is the one from whom I felt the most love in all the beings I had in my life,” she mentions.

“My father hit me, but he hit me maybe less hard, but he hit me. I had good volleys,” adds the artist.

Among these episodes of violence, Ms. Reno cites an incident that occurred when she was regarding 10 years old. At the time, she was distributing newspapers in the neighborhood and decided to borrow a neighbor’s toy car to lighten the load.

Although she claims to have returned the car to its owner once her tour was over, her mother told her father that the young Ginette had stolen the toy vehicle.

“That time, I had three blows from the strap, from his belt”, says the singer, who specifies that each time she denied having stolen, she received one more blow.

Although she claims to have “hardened over time”, Ginette Reno admits that this violence has left its mark.

“There was a lot of violence at home, so I became a terrified being. Today, I can no longer endure, I can’t even see a film with violence, ”claims the artist.
