American gymnast Jordan Chiles calls an arbitration panel’s decision to strip her of her floor exercise medal at the Paris Olympics “unfair.”

Chiles said the ruling was a “big blow” to him in a message spread on social media.

Following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the International Olympic Committee announced that it would reallocate the bronze medal won by the Chilean and give it to Romania’s Ana Barbosu.

Babosu is expected to receive the medal at a ceremony in Bucharest on Friday.

Initially, Chiles finished fifth out of eight gymnasts in the finals. But U.S. coach Cecil Landy appealed her pupil’s rating and asked that action be considered to improve her rating by one-tenth of a percentage point.

The coach’s approach was accepted, allowing Chiles to move up to third. He was awarded a bronze medal and walked onto the podium at the awards ceremony.

Romania successfully lodged a protest with CAS, pointing out that Landi did not lodge an appeal within a minute of the announcement of Chiles’ note. On Saturday, the panel decided to return the bronze medal to Babosu.

The International Gymnastics Federation restored the gymnasts’ original finishing order, and the International Olympic Committee announced on Sunday that the third-place medal would be awarded to Babosu.

“I have nothing to say,” Chiles posted on Instagram. “I feel this decision is unfair and is a major blow not only to me but to everyone who has supported my career. It is further frustrated by a series of unprovoked racist attacks on social media which are wrong , and extremely hurtful. “I gave my all to this sport and I’m very proud to represent my culture and my country. “

USA Gymnastics reports that efforts will continue to allow the Chilean to retain her medal. The sport’s governing body in the United States rejected Romania’s claim, according to which Randy’s claim came four seconds late.

On Sunday, U.S. Soccer said it had submitted video evidence to CAS showing Randy’s initial appeal 13 seconds before the clock expired.
