The Black Friday weekend through Cyber Monday kicks off the shopping season where retailers see the peak of their annual sales through December 24.
From Black Friday to Cyber Monday, there are already four days when retailers attract customers with promotions. Many, like me, suggest making purchases online to avoid crowds, traveling or finding and paying for parking spaces. Also pay attention to delivery costs, if applicable.
Here are our suggestions for this end of year which we think will be useful for as long as possible. Note that all prices shown below are rounded. Use the product number to search on your favorite search engine and find the best conditions, prices and delivery.
Computer Accessories
Quality at a good price is hard to refuse: like these Kensington products.
This SureTrack Dual Wireles (K75298WW) three-button ambidextrous mouse works even on glass surfaces, offers a wide range of 128-bit AES encrypted wireless connections (Bluetooth 3 and 5, 2.4 GHz WiFi) for desktops, laptops as well as mobile devices.
Normally $40, seen at $31 on Amazon.ca.
A multi-device keyboard
Along the same lines, this compact wireless multi-device keyboard (K75508CA) lets you connect and switch between three devices at once (computer, tablet, or phone) using the same previous connections. I use a similar keyboard and switching between devices via Bluetooth is a charm. Made with the best scissor key system, this one is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS and Chrome OS, includes two AAA batteries and comes with a three-year warranty.
Seen at $40 on Best Buy Canada.
For $20 more, Kensington offers a washable, therefore fully waterproof, wired keyboard and mouse (K70318CA).
The return of Epson ink tank printers
It took years for inkjet printer manufacturers that their cartridge systems had no commercial future. This time, these include large ink tanks that can last for years. Mine, an Epson Ecotank 4760 (mid-range) is two years old and with very light use the ink levels are still high for another two years.
The basic model multifunction ET-2400 (Printer, Scanner and Copier) (C11CJ67201) is well suited for light-duty work for students and small families.
Bureau en gros: $200 instead of $300; on Amazon for $230. Lien Epson.
Laptop
Lots of choices in the world of Apple’s macOS and Microsoft’s Windows systems. Let’s start with the apple company where you can find a MacBook Air 15,3 following, M2 chip, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of SSD storage. Small setback, expect a physical English keyboard, but easy to configure in French in the System Settings.
At Bureau en gros, $1500 instead of $1750.
Other MacBook Air for salemore compact than the first with 13.3″ screen, M1 chip, 256 GB storage, 8 GB memory.
Bureau en gros: $1100 instead of $1300.
In both cases, the offer expires on December 1st.
At the manufacturer HP, its 15.6″ laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor, AMD Radeon graphics card, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD, with Windows 11 Home system. Model No. 15-EF2017CA.
Staples price: $600 instead of $800.
The tablets
If laptops or desktop computers remain essential tools, the tablet should be placed in the discretionary category. That said, I love my iPad Air tablet with M1 chip which I mainly use for Netflix and Prime Video broadcasts on a plane or in the evening for two. And you can download films and TV series in the eponymous applications to watch them in the absence of a WiFi connection. Mine only has 64GB storage, which is more than enough for my video needs. Price paid $750 plus taxes in April 2022.
For similar needs, iPad Retina display 10.2 with A13 Bionic chip and 64 GB (model MK2K3VC/A) can do the same job for $370, instead of the list price of $450.
On the Samsung side, the tablette Tab S6 Lite 10.4-inch, 64 GB SSD (model SM-P613NZAAXAC) on Android is available for $200 instead of $450. A real bargain.
How do I know if the price is right…on Amazon.ca?
As with fuel prices, prices go up and down for a variety of reasons. The site CamelCamelCamel.com provides price history for a product on Amazon.ca. Buying in November or December may be more expensive than in summer.
To check, go to the Camel website, and to avoid any errors, insert the following product number into the search box /dp/ in the web address.
Example in this web address of a 34″ curved monitor from Samsung, just copy and paste following /dp/ No. B08MVBYWGQ in Camel.
Ex: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08MVBYWGQ/ (note that this short address without tracking codes alone is enough to open the product link.)
According to the graph, the price of the screen never exceeded CA$700, while dropping to around CA$550 a few times. And the current price is the lowest, CA$478 this year.
Speaking of screen…
Flat screen televisions are still in demand with prices that must be attractive to sell the large global production.
And the choice is vast! For your living room or to entertain your son in his apartment, current prices have nothing in common with the prices of the past.
For example. The screen TCL HD classe 32 po, series 3 (no. 32S334-CA) managed by Android TV: $159 instead of $180. Or even this 50 po classe S4 4K DEL powered by Roku TV, with Dolby Vision, HDR and Dolby Atmos imaging; $379 instead of $400.
Drones!
The American brand Holystone (and not Chinese, which is important to note for the confidentiality of the images captured) offers 30% reduction on Amazon.ca among several drones. This winter, the snow will help cushion small accidents on the ground for beginners.
Of course, this list barely comes close to all the end-of-year promotional offers.
Happy hunting to all!
