Marco Odermatt is on course for another win in the World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden. The native of Nidwalden set the best time in the first race ahead of Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen and teammate Loïc Meillard.
Odermatt, who ended a 14-year period without a Swiss victory on the Chuenisbärgli twelve months ago, leads the intermediate classification with a lead of 32 hundredths over Kristoffersen. Meillard, who is aiming for his first podium finish in a giant slalom this winter, lost 49 hundredths on the white snow band in green-brown surroundings. A time gap opened up behind the trio. Frenchman Alexis Pinturault is fourth, 1.19 seconds behind Odermatt.
Gino Caviezel was only slightly slower than the triple giant slalom winner on the Chuenisbärgli. The Grisons rounded off the excellent Swiss team result in sixth place. Justin Murisier dropped out on the finish slope.
In the fifth giant slalom of the winter, Odermatt is aiming for his fourth win of the season in this discipline. In addition, he tries to maintain his series of podium places. In the last 13 giant slaloms, including his Olympic victory in February, the man from Central Switzerland has always placed in the top three.
