Giannis takes the lead to the East!

If our eyes as French fans are naturally fixed on tonight’s NBA Paris Game, this Thursday, January 19 is also marked by the latest update concerning the votes for the next All-Star Game. In the West, no change from last week, it is still LeBron James who rules. On the other hand, in the East, it was Giannis Antetokounmpo who took power.

Leading the votes at the first two checkpoints, Kevin Durant must therefore leave his place as leader to the Greek Freak.

With 5,970,196 votes, Giannis actually just passed KD by a hair (5,838,182) and is therefore well on its way to becoming one of the two captains of the next All-Star Game, with the untouchable LeBron who is the only one in the world in the West (with 6,506,682 fan votes).

KD most likely pays for his knee injury, an injury that has deprived him of the pitch for a good ten days now. So certainly the Freak is also missing a lot of games at the moment but we are not on the prospect of a long-term absence like with Durant, who might potentially miss the star game on February 19 (absence of one month announced at the time of his injury).

More generally, we find the same names as last week at the top of the votes.

Western Conference

  • Frontcourt : LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Anthony Davis
  • Backcourt : Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic

Eastern Conference

  • Frontcourt : Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum
  • Backcourt : Kyrie Irving, Donovan Mitchell

Here is the rest of the process:

  • Fan votes will officially end on Saturday January 21, they count for 50% of the overall voting process (25% for media, 25% for players).
  • The 10 holders as well as the two captains will be revealed on Thursday, January 26, on TNT.
