Gianina García Troche, the wife of Sebastián Marset, was arrested in Spain

Madrid.- Following a coordinated effort between Interpol Spain and Interpol Uruguay, García Troche was arrested with her passport, according to the Uruguayan newspaper El Observador.

Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset went on the run on Saturday, July 29, when a Bolivian police operation aimed at capturing him in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, where he had been based since 2022, was thwarted.

Marset managed to escape accompanied by his partner, Gianina García Troche, his sister, Jimena Marset, and four minors. His whereregardings, despite endless speculation, are unknown.

Despite being a fugitive, the drug trafficker gave an interview to journalist Patricia Martín of Santo y Seña where he gave his version of several events in which he is linked.

Marset settled in Santa Cruz de la Sierra under the false identity of Luis Amorím and Brazilian citizenship. But his wife, Gianina García Troche, began to identify herself as Larissa Marques while his three children became Renato Augusto, Guilherme and Thiago.

Prior to their escape through different countries, Marset and García Troche appeared in public at different events, especially while they were living in Paraguay.

There, in February 2021, they went to a Valentine’s Day event at the Sheraton Hotel in the Paraguayan city and on May 3 of that year they also appeared in public at the inauguration of Total Cars, a mechanical workshop and automotive supplies store with locations in Asunción and also Ciudad del Este, used to launder drug money, as investigators of Operation A Ultranza were able to determine.

At the inauguration, an event covered by several local media outlets, several relatives of Marset and García Troche can be seen. Among them Marset’s mother, his sister (Jimena, now a fugitive), Mauro García Troche and some of his brothers.

On April 11, 2021, one day following his birthday, Sebastián Marset organized a party at the 23 de Abril ranch to celebrate his 30th birthday.

Gianina García Troche was born on January 26, 1993 and has five siblings. Her parents are Alicia and Guillermo, according to the file of the Operation A Ultranza in Paraguay. In said file she is listed as “divorced.”

Her father, in fact, was arrested on a farm near Empalme Olmos during an Interpol operation in Uruguay that sought to find Mauro García Troche, Gianina’s brother and who is also the subject of an Interpol red alert. The Uruguayan authorities have information that allows them to presume that García Troche is in Uruguay. Marset’s father-in-law was finally convicted of illegal possession of weapons.

The Paraguayan intelligence report also states that García Troche settled permanently in Asunción with Marset in 2020.

The family lived in a luxurious apartment located on the 15th floor of the Palacio de los Patos in the Paraguayan capital and drove several high-end cars, such as a red Mercedes Benz GLE 350D pickup truck, a white Toyota Land Cruiser TDI (armored) and a white BMW X6.

The Paraguayan intelligence report indicates that Marset’s partner was involved in several of the organizations set up by the drug trafficker in Paraguay, in alliance with the Insfrán clan, to launder money. One of these organizations was the Grupo San Jorge corporation, which owned the high-end car repair shop Total Cars, based in Asunción and Ciudad del Este.

Despite the information gathered by the Paraguayan investigation, in the interview broadcast this Sunday on Santo y Seña Marset assures that his partner has nothing to do with his business.

“Yes, I may be involved, but I know that there are many things that are not as they say. First of all, my family was included as part of the organization and my family has nothing to do with it,” he defended himself in the interview. However, he did not explain how his partner managed to set up several companies in Paraguay.

Paraguayan information also indicates that the money laundering scheme involved an agricultural enterprise that was managed by Gianina’s brother, Mauro.

Mauro García Troche ran the 23 de Abril ranch, where the Marset family clan ordered the construction of a mansion and where they also had regarding 2,000 heads of cattle.

At the end of August 2022, El Observador reported that the Uruguayan justice system was investigating, at the request of Paraguay, the financial movements of the Marset and García Troche families in Uruguay.

Paraguayan authorities were seeking to find out whether Marset had also set up a money laundering scheme in Uruguay. That is why on June 27, 2022, they sent a request from Paraguay to Uruguay to request that the criminal records, properties, banking transactions and financial aspects of Marset, his wife Gianina García Troche, as well as Diego Marset (Sebastián’s brother and also a fugitive from justice) and Mauro García Troche be investigated, considering them part of a family clan dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering.El Observador.
