Jammu: Senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who left the Congress, has activated his own party formation drive. PCC, a staunch supporter of Azad, said that the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit would come into existence within two weeks. Former Vice President G.M. Saruri clarified.
He said that the demand to restore the status of Jammu and Kashmir before August 5, 2019, when the special status (Article 370) was removed, will be prominent in the party’s manifesto.
Saruri said Azad was a complete secularist and had no problem working with the BJP. Hundreds of Congress leaders and representatives of local bodies left Jammu and Kashmir to declare their support for Azad. Ahead of the formation of the new party, Azad will reach Jammu on September 4. Then it is indicated that Vantali will also organize to prove its strength.
After resigning from the Congress, Azad had made it clear that he was in no hurry to form a national party and that he would form the first component of the party in Jammu and Kashmir, where elections would be held soon.
