Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Every year Microsoft and Apple launch their new products or services that the whole world is waiting for.
However, if you pay attention, the iPhone and Windows maker missed number 9 for their product series.
Microsoft did not introduce Windows 9 and neither did Apple release the iPhone 9 series. Both immediately launched Windows 10 and Apple X after the 8th version.
Why do you think the number 9 was missed by the two world technology giants?
This discussion will start from Apple first. The Cupertino-based company launched the iPhone X in 2017, the year that marked Apple’s 10th anniversary.
So, they decided to launch the iPhone model ‘X’ which is the roman numeral of ’10’.
Because it would be strange if they released the iPhone 9 series in the middle of the company’s 10th anniversary.
Apple also wants to signal a new beginning in iPhone product design. Plus, the number 9 is believed to symbolize unlucky in many cultures like the number 13.
The number 9 also has a negative meaning, namely literal curse in Chinese and torture or suffering in Japanese.
Switch to Microsoft. Quoting India Times, the release of Windows 8 was considered a mess, receiving a lot of criticism because of the changes introduced.
That’s why, to symbolize change, Microsoft decided to jump to the Windows 10 generation.
Plus, there was also Windows 95 and 98 in the past so using the similar Windows 9 name will cause confusion and code overlap.
Well, that’s the reason the iPhone 9 and Windows 9 were never released. Hopefully this information adds to your insight!
