At the same time, the title has received a lot of content, offering itself from time to time collaborations with other characters from the Tom Clancy universelike Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell) and the Operators of Rainbow Six.
Launched in October 2019, the title will therefore soon bow out. But let current players be reassured, the servers will remain accessible, and the game will continue to be offered for sale. But since this announcement from Ubisoft, a question arises: what regarding the NFTs sold in the title via the Quartz platform?
What future for Ubisoft NFTs, launched with Ghost Recon?
No mention of NFTs was present in the press release, prompting Games Industry to contact Ubisoft. The publisher has confirmed that he there will be no more NFTs dedicated to Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and that all items for sale had been sold. However, NFTs are not abandoned, quite the contrary. On the Ubisoft Quartz site, a message indicates:
You own part of the game and have left your mark on its history. The latest Digit for Ghost Recon Breakpoint was released on 03/17/2022, stay tuned for more updates with platform features and future drops coming with other games!
In other words, Ubisoft’s ambitions in terms of NFT are not linked to the cessation of development from Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Remember that these NFTs included special skins for weapons and pieces of equipment unique. For the moment, the publisher has not yet revealed his plans for using NFT in other games.
NFTs: An idea badly received by the public and industry developers
If all items have been sold, the arrival of NFTs was rather badly received by the public and by some developers at Ubisoft. A reaction to which expected Ubisoftwho said through Nicolas Pouard and Didier Genevois, respectively in charge of Quartz and NFTs, and Blockain Technical Director of Ubisoft:
Well, we expected such a reaction. We know this is not an easy concept to grasp. But Quartz is really the first step to something bigger. Something that will be more easily understood by players. This is our way of looking at things and this is why we will continue to experiment. We will continue to release features and services around this first trial. (…)
Nicolas Pouard had also declared that players have not yet “understood what a secondary market can bring them” :
At Ubisoft, we see further: it’s giving players the opportunity to resell their in-game items once they no longer need them. So really, it’s for them. It really is a benefit. But they don’t understand it yet.
