How many times have we not heard the poems of Nikos Kavadias, set to music by Thanos Mikroutsikos? And from how many different performers?
But yesterday’s (Thursday, August 8) concert with poems set to music by Nikos Kavadias, with the voice of Christos Konstantopoulos, was not just another musical event. It was a true artistic experience, full of emotions and memories. In this special space of the courtyard of Polyedros, the attendees had the opportunity to travel through verses that bring to life seas, ports and the lonely sailors of the poet, but in a way completely different from what we are used to.
Christos Konstantopoulos, with Giorgos Rigas on guitar, managed to breathe new life into the songs that so many love and know well, to give a different reading to well-known narratives and melodies. With respect to the original material but also with his personal artistic stamp, he presented a different approach to the poetry of Kavadias. His performance was not limited to a simple rendition of well-known tunes. Every note and every word took on a new, more personal and experiential character, which made the listener feel as if they were discovering the poems all over again.
Old and familiar sounds took on a new dimension, while the audience seemed to be immersed in a sea of emotions. Each song was also a different story, recounting the adventures and musings of Kavadias in a way reminiscent of nautical evenings under the starry sky. And all this to be connected with known and unknown stories about the poet, memories and narratives.
Christos Konstantopoulos managed to connect the listener with the inner world of the poet, making him feel the loneliness, the pain, but also the beauty of the journey and the sea. The well-known and beloved lyrics were “enchanted” through this different musical approach, offering an experience that will remain unforgettable for the attendees.
This concert proved that the poetry of Kavadias remains alive and relevant, ready to be redefined and touch new hearts. It was a night where the classics took on a fresh and renewed form, leaving the audience full of images and emotions that will accompany them for a long time.
