Teams are already mobilized to set up the Christmas Market, the flagship event of the month of December. “Orders are already in progress and already well advanced in terms of public procurement”indicates Hilèle Henini, responsible for managing the city center of Mons. “Some have already been made, like the trees that come from Spa and that we are going to install in town.” Two large 20 meter trees will soon take pride of place in the center of Mons.
In the city’s hangars, the Christmas Market chalets are also being prepared, in particular the structures which are being checked. A little Christmas feel at the end of September. “It’s weird, we have sunshine and we’re already preparing for Christmas, but those are the hazards of the job,” laughs Hilèle Henini. “We have to plan ahead.”
The opening of the Mons Christmas Market is scheduled for December 2.
In the shops
Also in the heart of Brussels, specialized items have already reached certain departments. “I love Christmas”admits this customer. “I come to this store often because I know they put out in advance.”
Here, hundreds of references, most of them high-end products that meet the expectations of increasingly busy customers. “It’s the end of September, people are asking”notes Suzanne De Wolf, the manager. “We start and every week I add more, it’s the tradition at the end of September we put up the first tree.”
For artisans and creators
On the craftsman side, too, we are getting active. Some designers are working on customizable Christmas baubles. “It’s assembly so it still takes a little time and it sometimes takes a month to send the orders, especially in France, so you have to plan in advance”, enlightens Aurélie, designer and decorator. Its products are exported all over the world. “There are orders from time to time, all year round, but it really starts in September”specifies Aurore, also a decorator.
According to a Hello Safe study, decoration represents nearly 13% of Christmas-related expenses. A budget spread, for some, over three months.
