Getting Kevin Fiala could cost a first-round pick and a prospect

This is not the first time that I have spoken to you regarding Kevin Fiala. In my eyes, he might be a prime target for the Canadiens to play on the left of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

We know he’s available and we know the Wild don’t want him anymore. It only remains to determine where it will go… and at what cost.

Journalist Michael Russo looked into the matter in a fairly extensive article published on The Athletic. He compared the Wild’s situation to several guys in a similar position to draw a comparison.

The result? Asking for a first-round pick and a prospect should do the trick.

Sam Reinhart is possibly a legitimate comparable. Also a good scorer and on the verge of autonomy, he allowed the Sabers to receive a first choice and Devon Levi, the Quebec goaltender who is worth more than the seventh round choice with which he was chosen.

What’s good is that the Canadian has the tools to compete with that. With the choice of the Flames, which will be at the end of the first round, the CH has what it takes. And we must not forget that pick #33 is also in the hands of Kent Hughes.

If the GM trades the Flames pick, then he can use his #33 pick and a distant pick to draft (if necessary) once more in the first round.

And as for the hope, the CH can also send to Minneapolis a hope who is not among the best of the bank of young people of the club to conclude the transaction.

It really can be done.

Remember that Fiala scored 85 points in 82 games this season before fading in the playoffs. He earned $5.1 million this year and will be eligible for full autonomy in a year.

A lot of

– Will Logan Mailloux be at the club’s development camp? It will depend in particular on his injury.

– Interesting parallel.

– Nothing less.

– What happened in the file?

– A player to watch this year.
