FIVE Syrian soldiers were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a military site on the Syria-Lebanon border in the early hours of Friday (27/9), SANA reported.
A Syrian military source told the official news agency that at around 01.35, “The Israeli enemy carried out an airstrike from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, targeting one of our military sites on the Syrian-Lebanese border near Kfeir Yabous in the Damascus countryside.”
“The attack left five soldiers dead and one other injured,” said the unnamed source.
The attack was the latest Israeli action against Syrian military positions, especially in the border area. Israel has not commented on the attack.
This incident further increased tensions in the region after the Hezbollah group in Lebanon was involved in cross-border fighting with Israel since the war broke out in the Gaza Strip.
Israel’s military action in the Palestinian enclave has killed more than 41,500 people, most of them women and children, since the Hamas resistance group carried out cross-border attacks in October last year. (Ant/Z-2)
