Beyond food, household items and furniture, it has been possible to get your hands, since September, on a 24-carat gold ingot from the PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan company. As of this writing, the 1 ounce bars are listed as sold out on Costco’s website.
The bars generally sell within a few hours of their publication on the site, says financial director Richard Galanti.
CNN reports that the gold bars were priced at $2,069.99 with a limit of two bars per Costco member. The retailer sold more than $100 million worth of gold bars last quarter, Galanti said. The price of gold also reached a record level in December.
The non-refundable gold comes “in a sealed black assay card” and is “individually stamped with a unique serial number,” it says.
CNN adds that Costco has reported strong profits since the pandemic, as customers flocked to stores to stock up.
Costco saw an increase in new members. Its shares therefore jumped 45% in 2023.
