12 millions. This is the number of French people still deprived of very high-speed Internet access, according to a 2023 study by UFC-Que Choisir. To achieve the objective of 100% connected households by 2025 and thus reduce the digital divide, the government wants to work harder. As part of the “Digital cohesion of territories” system, it offers a “financial assistance from the State for access to quality fixed Internet”. It is aimed at households that do not benefit from sufficient speed via wired networks. This boost should enable the installation of alternatives to fiber: satellite technology, fixed 4G or radio local loop. However, this equipment is more expensive than a classic very high-speed “box”.
The beneficiaries of theAAH eligible
This state subsidy was implemented in 2019 in rural areas. It is now extended, with an amount that varies depending on the situation: “up to 150 euros for labeled offers offering good broadband in overseas territories, up to 300 euros for labeled offers offering very high speed, and up to 600 euros subject to resource conditions”, for the poorest households. Among the eligible people in this last category, beneficiaries of the Disabled Adult Allowance (AAH), the Active Solidarity Income (RSA), the Supplementary Disability Allowance (BUT) (full list at the end of the article*)… “Any supporting documents provided must be less than two months old at the time of subscription to the offer”warns the government.
How to get it?
Once these criteria are met, you should go to the dedicated government website, to choose your municipality or select your department to find out the operators offering wireless web access solutions (for example: Orange, SFR, Numerisat, Ozone, etc.). You must then contact one of the operators offered to find out if the accommodation is eligible for the government system. The envelope allocated by the State should take the form of an immediate discount when subscribing to an offer. The budget devoted to implementing this aid reaches 20 million euros.
