The Hubble Space Telescope is one of the most important scientific instruments in history. How does the NASA website work that shows you the Hubble photo from your birthday?
NASA’s website uses information from the Hubble telescope image archive, made up of more than 500,000 photographs cataloged by date and time of capture.
When a user enters their date of birth on the website, the algorithm looks for the image closest to that date. If none are available for the exact birthday, the website will display the closest image before or following.

What type of images can be seen?
The images shown on the website are of all kinds. You can see galaxies, stars, nebulae, planets and other celestial objects.
