Good news for the people of Biel! The funicular which connects the city to Macolin resumes service several days in advance. After several weeks of work, it will be operational once more from Friday.
At the beginning of May, public transport in Biel announced a rather unusual gear failure. The reducer, supposed to be operational for at least 20 years, was defective. A spare part must then be ordered, but first made to measure. The TPBs provide for a delivery of seven weeks, to which must be added the assembly and the tests supposed to last an additional three weeks.
The commissioning is planned for July 8, but finally the Funi Macolin is back on track a week earlier. Contacted by telephone, Luc Ryffel, the technical manager of TPB, explains to us that the work went well and that the partners went into overdrive. If the schedule might be shortened, it is mainly thanks to a faster than expected delivery time for the part. The Funi Macolin therefore resumes service this Friday for a first race at 3:57 p.m. The hours remain the same as before the start of the works. / cro
