Get the Cultural Bonus before the Deadline: Only 20 Days Left for Young People in Castilla y León

2023-09-11 09:57:59

20 days before the deadline to request the Cultural Bonus closes, Only 45.7% of young people in Castilla y León, that is, 9,714 people, have required it, and for this reason, the acting Government delegate in Castilla y León, Virginia Barcones, called on those who turn 18 years in 2023 to benefit from this aid, whose application period expires on September 30.

The deadline opened on June 13 and, As of August 31, 9,714 young people from Castilla y León had already made the application, 45.70% of the total possible beneficiaries. And in Soria, out of 799, 369 have requested it, 46.18%. The Government delegate hopes that in these remaining 20 days, and now that the summer holidays have practically concluded, this percentage will grow until it is as close as possible to one hundred percent, reports Ical.

The Government delegate reminded young people that the program allows them to have 400 euros to acquire and enjoy cultural products and activities simply by virtue of having been born in 2005. “There are no more requirements. As simple as that; but you have to request it,” she said.

Barcones appeared this Monday at the Piccolo bookstore in Soriaand indicated that this is already the second edition of a program launched by the Government of Spain in 2022. “The more than 500,000 young people who turn 18 in Spain throughout 2023, 21,254 in Castilla y León and 799 in Soria, are potential beneficiaries of this invitation to enter adulthood hand in hand with culture,” he highlighted.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports has a number of 8.5 million euros for the young people of this Autonomous Community, 320,000 euros for the young people of Soria. “It would be a shame if every last euro were not distributed because some of those born in 2005 did not apply for their Young Cultural Bonus,” he highlighted.

Barcones pointed out that these 400 euros can be invested for an entire year. Young people born in 2005 (who turn 18 in 2023) are entitled to the Youth Cultural Bonus. They are both those born in Spain and those who have residence, asylum seekers, temporarily displaced people or formerly protected youth.

The Government delegate has also spoken about the 2022 Youth Cultural Bonus. In Castilla y León, 13,103 were granted, that is, almost 5,250,000 euros. In Soria there were 495 (almost 200,000 euros). Until June 30, 2023, the latest data published, 58,000 operations had been carried out in Castilla y León for a total amount of almost 2 million euros. In Soria, 1,681 operations had been carried out for an amount of 61,000 euros.

This means that operations for an amount of more than 3,250,000 euros remained to be carried out in Castilla y León and almost 140,000 euros in Soria. The Government delegate recalled that “in 2022 young people began to receive the granting of their Young Cultural Bonus around these dates and that the period to make the cultural investment they wish to make was twelve months from the date of granting, not from that they asked for it nor since they received it.”

“It could be the case that, If they are careless, they will not be able to fully invest the 400 euros. So I also take this opportunity to tell you to take this circumstance into account,” he said. In the application and on the website, beneficiaries have a counter that tells them how much time they have left to use it. For the Government delegate, “the voucher allows you to invite friends and family to the cinema, the theater, a concert and discover unknown cultural expressions or complete a collection of books, comics or records. Don’t let your time go by. It would be a shame”.

In the application and on the website, young people can find the entities and companies in which they can use the bonus, both physically and online. The application is made exclusively online, through the website bonoculturajoven.gob.es and is a very simple procedure, “much more than what it ended up being last year,” added the representative of the Government of Spain in Castilla y León.

The request can be made by the young person or by someone over 18 years of age on their behalf. In both cases it is necessary to register on the website with an email (that of the young person) and have a digital certificate or basic or advanced key.

If the request is made by a representative, you must attach a representation model signed by representative and represented. If not, the request is not valid. The Bono is an open door to culture in all its extension: books, cinema, theater, opera and online products, among others.

The Bonus is divided into three sections to promote access to different cultural expressions. A total of 200 euros for live arts, cultural heritage and audiovisual arts. For example, tickets and passes for performing arts, live music, cinema, museums, libraries, exhibitions and performing, literary, musical or audiovisual festivals and bullfighting shows. On the other hand, they are intended 100 euros for cultural products in physical format. For example, books, magazines, newspapers, or other periodical publications; video games, sheet music, records, CD, DVD or Blu-ray.

Another 100 euros for digital or online consumption. For example, subscriptions and rentals to music, reading or audio-reading, or audiovisual platforms, purchase of audiobooks, purchase of digital books (e-books), subscription to download multimedia files (podcasts), subscriptions to online video games, digital subscriptions to press, magazines or other periodical publications.

Stationery products are not included; curricular textbooks, printed or digital; computer and electronic equipment, software, hardware and consumables; artistic material; musical instruments; sports shows, fashion and gastronomy. X-rated or pornographic products are also not included.

But, in addition, the Bonus is direct aid to the cultural sector, decisive support for a key sector of the economy: Culture represents 3.2% of GDP, and employs 700,000 people (almost 3.5% of total employment). This sector, the cultural sector, was one of those that suffered the most as a result of the pandemic.

The Voucher will be used exclusively in establishments or institutions participating in the program. (as is the case of the Piccolo bookstore, in Soria, where Barcones spoke to the media this morning), located throughout the national territory, or whose offer is consumable from the aforementioned territory.
