Even before the first big Windows 11 update arrives, which is (imaginatively) titled Windows 11 2022 Update, Microsoft is already preparing a few minor updates to finally bring tabs to File Explorer and other much-requested features by the end of the year.
According to Windows Latest (opens in a new tab)these updates are called ‘Moments’, which will bring features that have been in testing for most of 2022. Since the Windows 11 2022 Update will be released at the end of September, ‘Moment 1’ will supposedly arrive a few weeks later, being the File Explorer tabs the main improvement that will come with it.
Although you can already try some of these features on your PC if you are a Windows Insider member (opens in a new tab)which lets you try out other updates Microsoft is working on, users have been wanting to see some improvements to Windows 11 since it debuted in October 2021.
The magic moments arrive
It is strange that Microsoft announced new features for Windows 11 in April, without indicating when they would arrive, and there has been no official announcement yet. Compare it to Apple, where we already know what’s coming to the Mac with macOS Ventura, like Stage Manager and a redesigned Settings app.
However, Windows users still don’t know when these features will arrive. It’s great to see these “Moment” updates supposedly coming so soon following the Windows 11 2022 Update, but the casual user currently has no idea this is the plan.
Hopefully Microsoft is aware of this, and that there is an event or announcement soon that will lay bare what the Windows 11 roadmap will entail, such as Moments 1 and 2, and how they will benefit everyone.
