Az Ethereum Foundation recently implemented the Shapella/Shanghai update on the Ethereum network, but we can already prepare for the next update, which is called Dencun. And as usual with Ethereum, this new update will bring some major changes. It is hoped that it will further reduce the cost of transactions and enable new uses. Dencun will have several Ethereum Development Proposals, EIPs, numbered as EIP-4844, EIP-6780, EIP-1153, and EIP-6475.
Introducing the new Ethereum EIP proposals
EIP-4844 will introduce it the so-called data blobs (blob = large binary object), which can then be used by second-layer solutions to send transaction and validation data instead of the CALLDATA method. Since the blobs are not permanently stored on the chain, their gas fee will be significantly lower. All in all, this will be great news for users of second-layer solutions.
The EIP-6780 will allow you to so that contracts can be created and canceled within a single transaction. This also entails the deactivation of the action code called SELFDESTRUCT, which canceled a contract if certain conditions were met.
The third change proposal, it will be introduced by EIP-1153 the TSTORE and TLOAD opcodes. They create a temporary storage space, which is then deleted following the transaction is completed. This will provide multiple new uses, such as re-entry locking or single-transaction ERC20 approvals.
Finally, let’s mention that EIP-6475, which in some respects is part of 4844. EIP-6475 is required to define one of the SSZ elements that are part of the transaction format created in 4844. This ensures compatibility with future SSZ objects introduced on Ethereum. Dencun hasn’t been around recently, so in addition to the above EIPs, it’s easy to imagine that more will be included in the update.
