FABIO Quartararo will use a new engine for use in the Malaysian MotoGP. According to him, this was very good when tested.
Under the concession rules, Yamaha will continue to develop the M1 in 2024. A number of new parts will be used for races throughout the season.
For the race in Malaysia this weekend, Quartararo will use a new engine which will apparently give him more power.

“It’s difficult to expect something nowadays when you arrive at the track. In the past, we only knew more or less: this one was good, this one was not good,” said Quartararo as reported by Crash, Thursday (31/10).
“But now we don’t know. The thing is, we have new things to try this weekend. We have a new engine. From my side, I want to test more different things on the electronics. For a long time I wanted to try something different, also on my riding style.”
“But I have to try something, the bike has to give me something different. So, we will make big changes to the electronics.”

“Maybe it’s good, maybe it’s bad, I don’t know. But at least, I think, we’re not in a position to think about one particular result and try something big that might help us a lot.”
Quartararo added that when he was testing the new machine, there were problems with electronic devices. However, the engine shows better performance even though it is constrained.
“Alex (Rins) has done a test and looks clearly better. My feeling is not bad either. Usually it will be stronger because Alex and I have different engines and my engine always has lower power,” he said.

“That’s what I like the most. So hopefully this one will be more energetic.”
“To be honest, when I tested it, I didn’t feel anything much different because we were having problems with the electronics. And we had a lot of things to test. So, I don’t remember much but it seemed like it gave us more power and you’ll see as well from the outside we brought in a new exhaust… well, ‘new’.”
“We put it on, we take it off, we put it on, we take it off. So, this is what we’re going to use for the weekend.”

Quartararo is not sure how many machines he has tried this season, but he believes it is “four or five”.
The 2021 world champion showed good speed at the Thai GP last week. He finished sixth and had strong speed in the grand prix even though he was overtaken by Franco Morbidelli at the start of the race.
Even though Yamaha still cannot achieve the best results in 2024, Quartararo said that every race this season shows positive signs.
“To be honest, in all the Asian tours and the last races, the results were not very good, but we always had positive things. Like in Thailand, qualifying P6, the speed was very good, the wet conditions were better,” he said.
“In Australia we struggled to warm up the tires but the pace at the end was very good. So, in every race we have something quite positive to take. So, I think we have made some steps.”
“However, as I said, we are still slow and others have already taken steps. So, we have to make bigger steps to get closer to the others.” (Z-2)

**Interview with Fabio Quartararo: Insights on the New Yamaha Engine**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Fabio. It sounds like the preparations for the Malaysian MotoGP have been quite eventful. Can you tell us about the issues you faced with the new engine during practice?
**Fabio Quartararo:** Yes, thank you for having me. Unfortunately, during the practice session, we encountered a problem with the new engine. It’s disappointing, especially when we were optimistic about the potential improvements it could bring. However, we’re working closely with the team to diagnose and fix the issues.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned earlier that the new engine had shown better performance during testing despite some electronic problems. Can you elaborate on what you mean by that?
**Fabio Quartararo:** Certainly. While the electronic devices had some issues, the engine itself felt stronger during our tests. It’s important to note that Alex Rins and I are working with different engines, and I believe mine has been slightly less powerful until now. My initial feeling is that this new engine has the potential to provide more energy and power, which is vital for our performance.
**Interviewer:** With the changes in technology, how is your team adapting to these new parts, and what are your expectations for the upcoming race?
**Fabio Quartararo:** The team is adapting quickly, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag. We have a lot of new components to test this weekend, which is exciting, but it also means we have to remain flexible. My focus is to try different setups and adjustments, especially in the electronics, to find what works best for me and the bike. We are not chasing a specific result; instead, we are experimenting to discover what might yield a larger benefit in the long run.
**Interviewer:** How are you feeling personally about the direction Yamaha is taking with the M1?
**Fabio Quartararo:** I’m cautiously optimistic. It’s a challenging time, but I see improvements in certain areas. I really want to test some different riding styles as we develop the bike further. We are in a position where we need to explore all possibilities, and I’m hopeful that these changes can lead to significant gains.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Fabio. We wish you the best of luck in Malaysia!
**Fabio Quartararo:** Thank you! I appreciate the support and hope to deliver a strong performance this weekend.
