Gerwald Rockenschaub has just opened his exhibition of digital paintings at Belvedere 21. He calls the geometric experimental arrangements with which he triggers our perception “eye sex”. Why he is not moving back to Vienna, what he advises art students who want to make a career – and why there is no music playing in his exhibition.
The Austrian flag is actually flickering on one of your screens in Belvedere 21. You’ve lived in Berlin since 1999 – nostalgic?
Gerwald Rockenschaub: I don’t see why I should be nostalgic, I’m not sentimental. If I had regretted my move, I would have come back. But of course I don’t like to do without the smack with the flag in Austria.
Why?
