An accident occurred this Monday around 2 p.m. in Gerpinnes, at the crossroads between the N5 and rue de Bertransart, near the petrol pump.
According to our local correspondent, two bikers coming from Philippeville overtook a truck carrying stones. During the manoeuvre, a motorcyclist was surprised by the presence of a pedestrian crossing with a slowdown zone. He lost control of his vehicle and fell heavily to the ground, his motorcycle sliding several meters.
In the opposite direction, a semi-trailer carrying heavy steel coils braked in an emergency to avoid the motorcyclist who had fallen to the ground. The motorcycle eventually hit the truck, but the driver did not.
The motorcyclist was picked up by an ambulance and taken to hospital. We do not know his exact state of health. The firefighters intervened with a beaconing team and a Manitou to evacuate the steel coils.
Police officers from the Germinalt area took charge of the traffic report and management. This was done alternately, causing major traffic jams.
