Greece made history in World Cheerleading Championships which was held at Orlando of America April 24-26, 2024. For the first time a Greek participation climbed to the podium and conquered bronze metal.
The gymnasts Anna Geroyan and Thomas Thanasis from the Aposperides club with impressive and well-executed choreography, both in the semi-final and the final, they managed to overtake superpowers in the sport of Cheerleading and emerge third in the world! The gold world medal in the Senior Hip Hop category was won by Thailand and the silver by Japan.
The Bronze World Champions said following winning the medal:
Anna Geroyan: “Seeing the mat of the world for 6 years, all we wanted was to get up there and represent our country. I shudder to think that we have achieved our dream and that we have won a bronze medal. I am very excited regarding what we have achieved. Hard work pays off!”
Thomas Thanasis: “I am grateful to have been able to live such a unique experience. The feelings are indescribable and although it is an unprecedented experience, from the first moment I felt familiarity in this environment”.
The president of the Hellenic Cheerleading Federation, Michalis Fundedakis, who led the Greek delegation to America, said: “Congratulations to our athletes for winning the bronze medal! We feel proud of Anna and Thomai who started and wrote a new page in our sport. We hope that more world medals will follow in the future”.
The Bronze World Champions, together with the people of the Aposperides club who accompany them, will return with the medal to Athens and Eleftherios Venizelos, on the morning of Tuesday, April 30, at 10:00.
