Germany defeats the USA: Nagelsmann’s debut is a success
At the beginning of the game everything wasn’t going well; following the deficit caused by ex-Dortmunder Christian Pulisic (27th minute), there was even a fear of another setback. But the DFB team fought back and equalized before the break when Ilkay Gündogan (39th) converted an individual effort from Leroy Sané.
After the first 45 minutes, Nagelsmann, who revealed his break speech, intervened for the first time. “I had the feeling in the first half that we wanted to decide the game too early. We almost tried to play every situation with a lot of risk and then we simply lost too many balls,” explained the 36-year-old on RTL following the game. “In the second half we still had a fast pace of play, but we were more patient. That was the difference.”
