The word of power from Green Party leader Ricarda Lang: Basic child support should not fail because of the initially planned, much criticized job creation. The family minister had previously also signaled a willingness to negotiate.

Clear words from the Green Party leader Ricarda Lang: The politician wants to finally end the debate regarding the required number of new government offices in the dispute over the planned basic child support.

Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) had previously identified savings potential in this area for the first time. Lang was obviously referring to this and then made his decision: “It is clear that there will not be 5,000 new jobs. And so there is no reason for the debate to continue to get hung up on this number,” she said on Sunday evening in the ARD “Report from Berlin”.

Her party friend Paus has shown that she can look for compromises. In the past few days there has been strong criticism from the coalition partners FDP and SPD regarding the mammoth project, for which the minister apparently wanted to hire extensive new staff.

Paus hopes for “synergy effects”

The question of how the number of jobs required can be reduced and how the best possible structures can be created now belongs in the parliamentary process. “And I expect everyone to get back into action now,” said Lang.

With regard to the FDP, which does not consider Pau’s bill to be approved, she said: “Anyone who is now calling for a new draft law gets the impression that it is more regarding blocking basic child welfare.”

On Saturday, Paus herself expressed understanding for the discussion regarding the number of jobs and told the German Press Agency: “I am sure that the total number of jobs can still be reduced through synergy effects and consistent digitalization, among other things.” Most recently, she had basic child support increasingly promoted as an administrative modernization project.

“We in the coalition introduced the law together – (FDP Finance Minister) Christian Lindner, also (SPD Labor Minister) Hubertus Heil and I –,” said the Green politician on Sunday evening on ZDF’s “Heute Journal”. . “It’s not always easy, but what unites us is that’s exactly what we want: We want to finally make this administration modern, we want to digitize it.”

There should not be a new authority, but rather: “We are strengthening the family budget,” said Paus. “Through digitalization, we enable families to be actively addressed when they are entitled to additional benefits.” The background is that many families may not take advantage of the social benefits to which they are entitled due to complicated bureaucratic application processes. “And that’s why I’m confident that we’ll now put the discussion into action that we’ve been having for several weeks and months and get to the point where we can finally discuss the law,” said Paus.

The basic child security has been decided by the cabinet and is currently in the parliamentary consultation process. It is intended to bundle previous benefits such as child benefit, benefits from citizen’s benefit for children and the child allowance. It is considered the Greens’ prestige socio-political project.
