Germany sends metal band Lord Of The Lost to the song contest

The Hamburg metal band Lord Of The Lost has won the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest. Thanks to the audience votes, the musicians prevailed once morest seven other applicants on the night of today in Cologne in the show “Unser Lied für Liverpool”. They are supposed to represent Germany at the final on May 13 in Great Britain.

The winning title “Blood & Glitter” is a classic rock number with a metal touch and a very catchy refrain – all in all, the band name and song title already indicate quite typical characteristics of the genre.

Public voting decisive

Half of the votes from eight international expert juries, including one from Austria presented by Cesar Sampson, and the public vote flowed into the evaluation. Almost all of the juries voted for traditional song contest material, with singer-songwriter Will Church leading the field by far.

The audience turned the rating upside down, but not quite in the way that had been expected beforehand. Brachialschlager singer Ikke Hipgold, who was actually the competition’s favorite with his “Lied mitgutes Text”, ended up in last place with the expert jury, the audience then heaved the slapstick number into second place. But Lord Of The Lost received even more votes from the audience, who clearly decided the evening in their favor: The expert jury’s favorites might hardly score with the viewers.

Austrian song will follow soon

It remains to be seen how the metal band will arrive in front of the big audience in May. In recent years, the Song Contest has been a fiasco for Germany by and large. Since 2015 it has been raining on the last or penultimate places, the only exception being musician Michael Schulte in 2018, who took fourth place.

Britain is stepping in this year as host country for Russia-invaded Ukraine, which won the Turin 2022 competition. The singers Teya and Salena will represent Austria and their song will be presented on Tuesday.
