The incident follows calls for greater police protection of politicians in Germany after a series of verbal and physical attacks with victims of high-ranking politicians.

Prominent members of the Greens, the party in coalition with Solz’s Social Democrats at the federal level, have also faced angry protests this year as Germany holds a series of local elections amid growing support for the far right.
