While waiting for this clash between the two previous leaders, this duel between Dortmund and Hoffenheim was a good poster between 4th and 5th in the standings with visitors positioned in front of their opponents. However, it was the Borussia players who entered the match best in front of the 80,000 spectators at Signal Iduna Park. They were quick to crack their opponents on an axial breakthrough and a subtle delivery from Julian Brandt exploited in the zone of truth by Reus to adjust Oliver Baumann (1-0, 16th).

Dortmund do not double down

Accustomed to unblocking situations, the captain of Dortmund scored his second goal of the season in the league but also his 45th opener for BvB in his career. The combative Anthony Modeste then did not frame his head in a good position (19th) and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens badly negotiated the center of the French striker lacking conviction on his recovery (22nd).

Touched on the shoulder following a duel, the 18-year-old Englishman had to give way to Thorgan Hazard shortly before the break (44th) when the BvB had not obtained a penalty despite a ball touched by the arm by the clumsy Ozan Kabak (31st). Reus had missed the right corner of Baumann on a good recovery from the left (43rd) and Bellingham then saw the doorman divert his powerful cross shot as best he might (45th).

Hoffenheim reacts

Well aware of TSG’s shortcomings, André Breitenreiter launched Sebastian Rudy, Pavel Kaderabek and Muhammed Damar on recovery and his team immediately showed a new, more coherent and biting face. Finally fed, the Frenchman Georginio Rutter was able to fire a shot from 20 meters which narrowly missed the target (53rd). His Croatian friend Andrej Kramaric called on Gregor Kobel in stride (54th).

Debates became contested as visitors indulged. Dortmund also found space but, following a cross from Thomas Meunier, Hazard then Modeste failed to complete a double chance because Baumann stood up to them superbly (67th). Borussia might have regretted these opportunities to make the break because Hoffenheim, who remained on three victories, pushed until the end. The visitors, however, remained rough and did not find the right inspiration to snatch the equalizer. After having cracked on the wire in front of Werder Bremen during their previous home outing (2-3), Dortmund is holding firm this time and can turn serenely to the next reception of FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.
